Staging a Charming Dundas Home

We’ve been a busy bee home staging in and around the Hamilton area and we couldn’t be happier! Summer is around the corner and homes are going up for sale, left, right and centre. Now is the time to soften up clients’ current décor themes with our staging inventory of soft whites, blues, greens and more. But of course, we always complement with what the clients’ already have and we build from there to create for a strong Open House showing.

We recently staged an older home in the Dundas, Ontario area. It sold quick within a week! Not surprising though, as it is a sought-after area for young families looking to settle in.

Our colour inspiration for this bedroom came from the client’s pretty, quilted bed comforter and her light blue blinds. We brought in the essence of softness to allow potential buyers to picture themselves curled up reading a hard-to-put-down book while gazing through to the garden landscape.

We helped the client declutter her rooms as she is a retiree and on her own. We brought in bright pillows and more new accessories to let her large-sized rooms shine to their potential to be ready for buyers roaming through for Open House. (She recently had her walls freshly painted so wall art was not hung at their request.)

Living Room Makeover

It was now or never, so we seized the moment for our living room makeover!

Our walls used to be a matte medium brown colour, so were the custom-sewn striped curtains and light brown lamp shades. So we decided to lighten up the room we spend so much time in.

Previous colour scheme

We recently painted the main floor a Classic Cream tone by Benjamin Moore and invested in some soft, shimmery curtains. Added new cream lamp shades from Lowe’s Canada, and, new touches of white and blue accent vases and accessories from Bouclair, Bowring and Urban Barn to complement our existing brown couches and walnut coffee tables. Spotted the large art wall statement piece from HomeSense – had to have it!

Staging helps buyers with their own décor visions

We staged this East Hamilton home last summer. It was mainly empty except for the master bedroom, kitchen and family room. But we still had to bring side tables and lamps plus accessories to finish the look. The busy healthcare professional and bachelor didn’t have time for himself, let alone decorating it the way he envisioned. That’s when we came in.

We used our local rental furniture supplier to stage the rest of the home to get it ready for sale. The client was so impressed that we were able to pull off the vision they were wishing for. So impressed that they even took notes to decorate their next home with our inspiration. (No artwork was hung at the request of the client as the walls had been freshly painted.)

Staging helps sell Homes

We recently staged a Downtown Hamilton condo that sold within 2 days!

For staging this condo, we based our colour theme on the seller’s red and green existing artwork. We brought in our fun, green shaggy pillow set (new to our staging inventory) and red faux centrepiece accent balls to make the living room pop as potential home buyers entered from the hallway. We decluttered their TV shelf stand to showcase larger accent vases to anchor the space. When there are pets involved, it’s hard not to include them in the staging photos like their cute pet birds in this case. (But they didn’t mind the spotlight.)

Colourful DIY Plant Stand

DIY plant stand

Hope everyone has been having a great summer! Wanted to do this DIY plant stand project earlier this summer but life/work has been go go go!

Outdated hunter green plant stand
Outdated hunter green plant stand

We saved this plant stand from a friend’s curbside a while back. As you can see, it was a 1990’s hunter green, a little dirty, and a little rusty but otherwise in great shape. So we knew we could breathe it back to life again. The notion of “reduce, reuse and recycle” of helping to sustain our environment for the future.  It can be used indoors and/or outdoors so we wanted to add a punch of colour to it.

Our inspirations!
Our inspirations!

This pretty terra cotta/orange planter bowl caught our eye when Target Canada (we so so miss them!) was closing. Then, we came across the cute bright striped citronella candle. So we got inspiration to spray paint it a soft, calming blue from these two.  We knew it would be a fun way to display outdoors through the summer months. We used Krylon Glossy ‘Bahama Sea’ – how fitting for the season!

Now that summer is almost over (sigh!) and ‘back to school’ routine is around the corner, the Fall Mums are out in full force. Annuals out, Fall Mums in.  The deep rich orange/red flower pulls the round planter’s colour together for a finished look.  What do you think?

Master Bedroom … bold attraction

Client Master Bedroom, Burlington, Ontario
Client Master Bedroom, Burlington, Ontario

I know it’s been a while … but as promised I’m back with my final installment of my Interior Design Client’s Master Bedroom.

Our clients embraced the idea of having an accent wall in their bedroom so we went with Benjamin Moore’s Watermelon Red to invoke a bold yet passionate statement as you step into their bedroom. Their surrounding walls are Benjamin Moore’s White Cloud; a nice peaceful balance for them to unwind in at the end of a long day’s work.

We found a large horizontal frame with geometric prints at Winners …. my clients loved the frame but not the prints.  But it was a great deal so we decided to remove the three graphical prints and make it their very own by adding family photos in black and white.  A mini-DIY project!

As they were moving from Toronto to a small home, they still needed to find a place for all their clothes. We turned to Closets By Design to maximize all the space they could get from their Master Bedroom Closet.

Being welcomed home

Hallway Entrance_ copy
Warm yet functional entryway, Burlington, Ontario, Canada

Happy Friday everyone! Today we wanted to feature the warm yet functional entryway we designed for our client project series.

As you can see below, the previous homeowners had kept their golf clubs by the doorway. And, it had an outdated brass light fixture and flowery traditional runner welcoming them in.

Kitchen & Hallway_Before_
With little twin girls and two working parents, we wanted to create an entrance that would work for our clients in the mornings as they rush out the door to work and daycare, and when they come home from a tired day.

We wanted to keep this busy family of four’s entryway tidy and organized. So we did just that by personalizing four individual baskets to keep their mitts, hats, scarves and tiny shoes all stored in one spot.
Personalized Baskets copy

We found this pretty white bench with shutter sliding doors and storage shelves (from Target Canada); it fit perfect with the rest of their main floor’s open-concept décor look and feel.  The vintage-inspired pillow was a surprise find from Kitchen Stuff Plus that complemented the solid navy blue sweater-style pillow (also from Target Canada – hey what can we say, we LOVE Target!).

We fell in love (so did our clients) with the wooden rustic accent mirror from Home Outfitters; we knew it would be the right fit to anchor the spot.  So our clients can have that one last look before they walk out the door.  The geometric modern area rug pattern (again from Target Canada) also fits the tone with the rest of their living room décor.  While, the chic light fixture completes the overall entryway with style and sophistication.

Stay tuned for the next reveal in our client project series … their luxurious bathroom!

Cosy up and unwind

Client Living Room, Burlington, Ontario, Canada

Hi everyone … as promised, I’m back with my client project’s Living Room unveil. As I had mentioned before, my clients bought a home that was outdated and in need of some tender loving care. Below is what it looked like while it was listed on the market.

before_shot
This is what it looks like now!  A modern living room look and feel!

after_shot
My clients wanted an inviting living room where they could relax, indulge and entertain with their twin little girls. All the while looking through their big bay window to welcome in the natural light. We chose the couch, rustic chairs and nesting tables, and coffee table together, while my client really, really wanted the two different eclectic table lamps. (She didn’t want a matching set.)

modern accents for living room
To play on the yellow/teal/gray colour scheme from their dining room chandelier, I brought in pretty accent pillows from Target (we’re going to miss them!) and Urban Barn while adding geometric vases from Bowring and Winners. The stylish, patterned grey curtains (from Urban Barn too) also complement the black and white pillows and silver elements in the room. My clients are big travelers so I wanted to bring in memories from their trips.  So I asked them to pick three favorite scenery shots from three different trips which I then enlarged into black and white photo prints and framed for them.

kitchen view
When they are cooking and entertaining, this is the gorgeous view they see from their open concept kitchen counter space.

accent mirror

And as they walk through their front door, look over to the right side, they are welcomed by a large accent mirror.  Instead of wall art, I wanted to encompass an unique piece that would be a “wow” statement as family, friends and guests entered their home.  And at the same time, help to open up their main floor some more.

In our next post, we’ll unveil their warm yet functional entryway …

Our adventure to IDS2015 Toronto!

This past Saturday January 24th, I went to the Interior Design Show 2015 (IDS2015) with a girlfriend. Let me tell you, I was SOOOOO EXCITED to go! Because it was my very first time … and because we were supposed to go last year but there was a huge snow storm that prevented me from doing so. There was so many booths from furniture retailers and distributors to tile and rug suppliers to independent vendors …. so much to see! So I’d like to share with you some of my fave things that captured my attention!

Kitchen WOW!

Newly-renovated Kitchen and Dining Room – fresh, stylish and sleek
Newly-renovated Kitchen and Dining Room – fresh, stylish and sleek

I had an amazing opportunity in 2014 to work on a complete home renovation with clients moving from Toronto to Burlington. They wanted a bigger backyard and slower life pace for their twin girls and themselves. So they bought a bungalow that was still decorated circa 1970s. It needed a complete makeover!

Once the contractors were done their job (a two and a half month process), I could start mine! And voila, this is how the kitchen and dining room turned out:

Fresh, open and welcoming as you come through their front door! I helped them pick out Benjamin Moore paint colours for their kitchen cabinets and surrounding walls.

As well, I recommended the white submarine backsplash tiles with a light blue (the pictures don’t truly reflect the calm colour) and brown accent to wrap around.

My clients had already chosen the dining room light fixture so that was the colour scheme I decided to incorporate as well as in their living room. A mixture of yellow/grey/teal.

To blend the three open rooms together through the curtains, accents and accessories. The rustic furniture grounds the dining room while a framed flag from Kenya (given to them by their sister) complements the colour scheme in place. A unique piece to anchor that wide open wall space as you head downstairs.

Stay tuned … we’ll unveil the living room in our next Blog post.
