Staging a Charming Dundas Home

We’ve been a busy bee home staging in and around the Hamilton area and we couldn’t be happier! Summer is around the corner and homes are going up for sale, left, right and centre. Now is the time to soften up clients’ current décor themes with our staging inventory of soft whites, blues, greens and more. But of course, we always complement with what the clients’ already have and we build from there to create for a strong Open House showing.

We recently staged an older home in the Dundas, Ontario area. It sold quick within a week! Not surprising though, as it is a sought-after area for young families looking to settle in.

Our colour inspiration for this bedroom came from the client’s pretty, quilted bed comforter and her light blue blinds. We brought in the essence of softness to allow potential buyers to picture themselves curled up reading a hard-to-put-down book while gazing through to the garden landscape.

We helped the client declutter her rooms as she is a retiree and on her own. We brought in bright pillows and more new accessories to let her large-sized rooms shine to their potential to be ready for buyers roaming through for Open House. (She recently had her walls freshly painted so wall art was not hung at their request.)

Living Room Makeover

It was now or never, so we seized the moment for our living room makeover!

Our walls used to be a matte medium brown colour, so were the custom-sewn striped curtains and light brown lamp shades. So we decided to lighten up the room we spend so much time in.

Previous colour scheme

We recently painted the main floor a Classic Cream tone by Benjamin Moore and invested in some soft, shimmery curtains. Added new cream lamp shades from Lowe’s Canada, and, new touches of white and blue accent vases and accessories from Bouclair, Bowring and Urban Barn to complement our existing brown couches and walnut coffee tables. Spotted the large art wall statement piece from HomeSense – had to have it!

Our living room is now lighter and brighter – yet cozy and warm for our family movie nights!

Staging helps buyers with their own décor visions

We staged this East Hamilton home last summer. It was mainly empty except for the master bedroom, kitchen and family room. But we still had to bring side tables and lamps plus accessories to finish the look. The busy healthcare professional and bachelor didn’t have time for himself, let alone decorating it the way he envisioned. That’s when we came in.

We used our local rental furniture supplier to stage the rest of the home to get it ready for sale. The client was so impressed that we were able to pull off the vision they were wishing for. So impressed that they even took notes to decorate their next home with our inspiration. (No artwork was hung at the request of the client as the walls had been freshly painted.)

Staging helps sell Homes

We recently staged a Downtown Hamilton condo that sold within 2 days!

For staging this condo, we based our colour theme on the seller’s red and green existing artwork. We brought in our fun, green shaggy pillow set (new to our staging inventory) and red faux centrepiece accent balls to make the living room pop as potential home buyers entered from the hallway. We decluttered their TV shelf stand to showcase larger accent vases to anchor the space. When there are pets involved, it’s hard not to include them in the staging photos like their cute pet birds in this case. (But they didn’t mind the spotlight.)

Spring has Sprung! Time for Staging.

Spring has Sprung … and the real estate market in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, is beyond HOT. We mean HOT! We’ve been busy staging several homes in and around the Hamilton surrounding area. We’ve received compliments (from both clients and potential buyers as they pass through) on our staging so that always brings a smile to our face.

We walk room to room with the seller in helping them declutter their spaces to get their home ready for a sale. We bring our wide range of inventory to complement the clients’ existing décor.  For Open House day, we like to suggest bringing in fresh flowers and/or fresh fruit for their kitchen table or even their front hallway table, to welcome prospective home buyers … and add that extra touch of colour!

Each home is a challenge … but one that we look forward to each and every time!

Let’s take a tour of our recent staging jobs together, shall we.

Assembling the Troops to Feed a Community!

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome 2016! Hope you all had a relaxing Holiday season.

This is my latest blog post for Chicago’s Corporate Event Interactive.

For December Blog

On November 4th, 2015, Corporate Event Interactive (CEI) produced Feeding Chicago for its client, the Meetings & Incentives Worldwide(M&IW). It was a team building meets CSR event during their Annual Meeting. M&IW employees took part in a series of team building challenges and trivia while building camaraderie and at the same time, giving back to the community. After each challenge was completed, teams received food vouchers which were redeemed at the “general store” for food items. Teams assembled and decorated boxed lunches and wrote inspirational messages to be included. How fitting!

For December Blog

The boxed lunches/dinners were then donated to Cornerstone Community Outreach which offers shelter and services to homeless and low-income families in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. A representative from Cornerstone visited during the event to thank the teams for building awareness and to generously accept the appreciated donations.

The clients really enjoyed participating in the day’s activities, especially assembling the boxed lunches/dinners. They also brought extra non-perishable food items themselves from home to donate to Cornerstone.

Way to go M&IW team!

It was awesome and everyone had a great time! Another successful event!!!” – Jean Johnson, President & CEO Meetings & Incentives Worldwide

Give the “Gift of Hope” this Christmas Season!

Give-the-Gift-of-Hope
Holiday season is upon us now that it is officially November! Invites to Holiday corporate parties and festive get togethers are already on their way.

If you are planning to do a ‘Secret Santa’ with your co-workers and/or family this year, why not consider something different …. like donating to a special cause as a group.  Instead of giving “Sue” another funny mug or “Ted” a set of wacky plaid socks, consider making a donation in their name or in your group’s name. Whether your group is your department or family members. A touching way to give back to the business community you work and play in!

Many national and local charities are running great campaigns to build awareness to help families and children in need.

Remember “Giving Tuesday” is Tuesday December 1st … but you don’t have to wait until then to make your gift count.

These are some organizations that could benefit from your Christmas donation, whatever the amount.

Operation Christmas Child – Samaritan’s Purse Canada
My son’s school did this last year and it really resonated with me. Knowing you are sending simple items like soap, toothbrushes, and, school supplies to children that really need them overseas. Items that we have at our disposal can bring children overseas so much joy and relief.

We’ve already packed our shoebox for this year’s donation.

Check their website for a drop-off location within your community.

CityKidz
You can sponsor a child in your region, whether you are in Ottawa, Regina or in Hamilton. Your money will reach a child near you; knowing you are doing your part to make your community a better place. And if you’d like to make a general donation, know it will be going to enhance the programs they offer such as Kinder Kidz and Junior Leadership. Shaping minds for the future!

Music Counts
I spotted an advertisement while I sat and waited for Koba Entertainment’s Bubble Guppies show at Hamilton Place a few weekends ago. The ad was catchy and effective, enough for me to remember to tell some of my musician friends. This powerful cause is determined in saving music programs within our Canadian schools. I tried piano and clarinet when I was in grade school … that was the extent of my musical abilities. But I’ve always appreciated those that can read and make beautiful music.

Poverty Revolution – Food for the Hungry Canada

Food for the Hungry is a Christian non-profit organization, based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, dedicated to ending poverty – one community at a time. By sponsoring a child, or giving unique gifts such as livestock, garden tools, school classroom supplies, and medical equipment; all these are practical in helping communities become independent and sustainable.  From buying a cow or goat, to a sewing machine or sports equipment, these will benefit the young and old in strengthening their overall communities.

Coming together for a Corporate Feud

Hi everyone! It’s November! I haven’t blogged in a while, but here is my latest guest blog post for Chicago’s Corporate Event Interactive. They had a pretty cool client teambuilding activity recently based on Family Feud … who doesn’t love this show, whether you are a fan of the original or the new comeback with Steve Harvey.  Enjoy!

When was the last time your Corporate Feud was a funny, engaging one? Our teambuilding activity (based on the widely-known, long-running Family Feud game show) was exactly that for one of our valued clients, Brightstar Corp.  On October 15th, 2015, we ran The Brightstar Game Show Medley at the welcoming DoubleTree Hotel.

“Teams face off at the buzzer”
“Teams face off at the buzzer”

This brought their department together as a “family”, a corporate family. It allowed each individual to depend on each other, engage with one another, in answering the best they could to the different survey questions being posed within an allotted time frame. It was a funny way for everyone to learn to rely on each other outside their day-to-day office space. Yet, it still helped to meet the end goal: the importance of coming together, regardless of the specific environment, to complete tasks that result in successful business outcomes. The more you trust your co-workers, the better your working relationships will be. Creating for better everyday business practices.

If you can’t trust your family, who can you trust?

"The winning team!"
“The winning team!”

The day proved this as the different activities rolled out. There were winners and there were good sports (who earned a delicious box of Rice Roni … perfect for dinner that night, we might add). What really counts is that they were able to work as a team and deliver results … together.

"The good sports ... still winners in our eyes!"

“It was great. Everyone had a good time. It was a GREAT experience and everyone enjoyed themselves!!! Thank you!” ~ Brightstar Corp.

Colourful DIY Plant Stand

DIY plant stand
DIY plant stand

Hope everyone has been having a great summer! Wanted to do this DIY plant stand project earlier this summer but life/work has been go go go!

Outdated hunter green plant stand
Outdated hunter green plant stand

We saved this plant stand from a friend’s curbside a while back. As you can see, it was a 1990’s hunter green, a little dirty, and a little rusty but otherwise in great shape. So we knew we could breathe it back to life again. The notion of “reduce, reuse and recycle” of helping to sustain our environment for the future.  It can be used indoors and/or outdoors so we wanted to add a punch of colour to it.

Our inspirations!
Our inspirations!

This pretty terra cotta/orange planter bowl caught our eye when Target Canada (we so so miss them!) was closing. Then, we came across the cute bright striped citronella candle. So we got inspiration to spray paint it a soft, calming blue from these two.  We knew it would be a fun way to display outdoors through the summer months. We used Krylon Glossy ‘Bahama Sea’ – how fitting for the season!

Fresh new look - new again!
Fresh look – as new again!

Now that summer is almost over (sigh!) and ‘back to school’ routine is around the corner, the Fall Mums are out in full force. Annuals out, Fall Mums in.  The deep rich orange/red flower pulls the round planter’s colour together for a finished look.  What do you think?
